Gorr The God Butcher: How Powerful is He?

One of the major projects announced as a part of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was the fourth installment in the Thor franchise, Thor: Love And Thunder. The movie will serve as the continuation to Avengers: Endgame, which saw Thor joining the Guardians of the Galaxy towards the end. The film will also be will adapting the storyline from Thor Vol. 4 #1 that sees Jane Foster gaining the powers of the god of thunder. In addition to this, it will also set up the events of the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie in some way or the other.

Gorr The God Butcher

Christian Bale is all set to make his debut in the MCU with the movie. He will reportedly be playing the role of Gorr the God Butcher in the movie. Gorr is considered to be a deadly villain in the Marvel Universe, said to be in the same league as that of Thanos and Hela. It is no surprise that the other two are formidable threats, with Hela remaining virtually undefeated against Thor and his allies in Thor Ragnarok; even managing to shatter Mjolnir. As for Thanos, the Mad Titan defeated the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War and successfully snapped away half the universe. So where does Gorr the God Butcher actually stand? Let us find out.

GORR THE GOD BUTCHER IN THE COMICS: POWER LEVEL EXPLAINED

Hela and Thanos gave Thor a run for his money, he had to resort to drastic measures to overcome them. These include letting his ancestral home get destroyed by Surtur just to finish Hela off, and getting a power up in the form of the Stormbreaker Thanos. In the comics, if there’s any villain who can come close to repeating the struggles Thanos and Hela were able to give Thor, it’s Gorr the God Butcher.

Considering the fights he’s endured in the Thor comics, it is indicative of what Gorr will be capable of on the big screen. When examining what Gorr can do, it’s important to note that the threat he poses to characters like Thor is mainly due to his signature weapon, the Necrosword. Gorr has centuries of combat experience, however he does have a lack of enough natural raw power to go against Thor or the Avengers. However, the sword does grant him all sorts of abilities, one of which being super strength that’s on the same level as the Marvel heavyweights like Thor, Hulk, Hercules, and Namor.

Gorr The God Butcher

Most importantly, the Necrosword gives Gorr the God Butcher the edge so that he can compare to Hela and Thanos. Armed with this weapon, he has the means to kill gods, a feat that both Hela and Thanos have accomplished in the past. Due to the significant degree that the Necrosword enhances him physically and all the powers it grants him, Gorr could theoretically be a good match for either villain in combat. In fact, there’s a strong chance he might even win. To add substance to the statement, it is important to consider that the comics have seen Gorr beat three different versions of Thor at once and also the story where Gorr took out Galactus with the Necrosword. Thanos (without the Infinity Gauntlet) is typically depicted as inferior to Galactus. It is therefore a good assumption that with the Necrosword, Gorr can very well be as powerful as Thanos and Hela.
