When Iron Man Become God
In what many thought would be the cherry on the top, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, is about to become a god in the Marvel Comics. This change will happen in November's issue of Iron Man #14, and will follow Tony's confrontation with Avengers villain Korvac aboard Taa II, the Worldship of Galactus. Tony has been on a mission to prevent Korvac from stealing Galactus' power and becoming a god in recent issues, but it seems that he will not only be successful in stopping him, but he will also make the power his own.
The latest series - from Christopher Cantwell, CAFU, Angel Unzueta, and Frank D'Armata; shows Tony feeling more than a little down. The public has turned its back on him and he’s frustrated by his limitations as a hero, hunting down Korvac has only seen Tony lose control. First suffering severe injuries that rendered it impossible to remove his armor, then being teleported too far away to help his team face the villain, Tony has flipped from despair to egotism and back again, considering himself as the only person who can stop Korvac and taking on the blame for anyone hurt in the meantime. What’s more, his arrogance received a major boost in Iron Man #11, which saw the Living Tribunal personally tell Tony that only he could save the universe from catastrophic imbalance.
IRON MAN GAINS GALACTUS’ POWERS
In an interview with SuperHeroHype, writer Christopher Cantwell has revealed that the Living Tribunal's words weren't just about Tony stopping Korvac, but also about him becoming a living god. The latest issue will see Iron Man fuse with the Power Cosmic - the energy that makes Galactus powerful , thereby attaining a new form as the Cosmic Iron Man. Cantwell reveals that the issue will deal with Tony's struggle to remain humble as he transforms, continuing the themes of the series so far. This is what the issue summary for Iron Man #14, states:
“BEHOLD THE BIRTH OF COSMIC IRON MAN! Iron Man has tasted a higher power and is forever changed. Moments before, he was locked in mortal combat with his worst adversary in years — KORVAC — but now he finds his very existence altered beyond recognition. Indeed, fundamental concepts like space and time have taken on a new meaning. But what does this portend for Tony Stark, a man who even when stripped bare feels he knows best? What happens when his ego — often challenged, condemned and even derided by both foes and friends — is suddenly given a limitless avenue? It could certainly mean radical and drastic change for the entire universe…and reality itself.”
